Wisdom in 'nutshell' a delicious gift idea

It's already Nov. 14, so the search for a clever hostess gift moves up a notch in importance.

Here's an idea - a locally made box of walnut-shaped cookies, designed by an architect with a mold crafted by a sculptor; baked by a professional baker and harboring a nugget of wisdom inside.

You might call them Pittsburgh's answer to the fortune cookie, except that they taste much better.

Titled "The Edible Game: A Smart Cookie," they are the brainchild of Charles Reichblum, author of the popular "Knowledge in a Nutshell" books, who decided to expand is theme to cookies.

He asked architect Sylvester Damianos to design the nut and sculptor Peter Calaboyias to create the mold.

The result is an authentic-looking walnut, complete with the seam, that is a delicious sugar cookie baked by Jenny Lee Bakery. Each contains a Reichblum question and answer inside.

Cost is $14.95 for a box of 12 or $20.95 for 20 individually wrapped cookies in a tub at Jenny Lee Bakery, Weisshouse in Shadyside, McGinnis Sisters in Brentwood, Contemporary Concepts in Wilkins and some supermarkets. Call 1-800-688-7435.
